(Expanded Functions Dental Assistant/Radiology (EFDA) 
Course Description: This 40 hour course
of study is designed to reacquaint
dental auxiliaries in accordance with the guidelines of the State of Florida
Board of Dentistry and current Florida law with basic principles and background
required for certification in Radiology Health and Safety.
The course includes the theory and hands-on coronal
polishing, alginate impressions, application and removal
of periodontal dressings, fluoride application,
sealants, base and liner placement, rubber dam,
placement and removal, fabrication of temporary crowns
and matrix and wedge placement. The radiology
portion of the program includes the identification of
the x-ray head, characteristics of the x-ray beam, film
placement and development, procedures and the importance
of operator and patient safety. The course is taught
on a Saturday from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
All applicants are required to prove current work experience as a dental
assistant and/or dental auxiliary.
A diploma of completion will be awarded after satisfactory completion of
the didactic requirements, as well as achieving a passing grade on a written
test.
EXPANDED DUTIES FOR THE DENTAL AUXILLARY PERSONNEL
Course Objective: To prepare the student with sufficient
theoretical knowledge and specialized skills to enable them to perform
additional functions in assisting the dentist.
Program Description: The course of study includes the theory

crown and matrix and wedge placement. A certificate is issued upon successful
completion of the program.
Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have completed one year
of experience as dental assistant under the direct supervision of a licensed
dentist, are currently working as a dental assistant or the applicant
can submit documentation showing completion of an accredited dental assisting
program (cannot be a correspondence course). The course length is
40 clock
hours for three consecutive weekends.
