Medical Assistant:Diploma- 900 clock hours
Program Description: The Medical Assistant Program is a 900 clock-hour program that includes 740 hours of classroom instruction followed by a 160-hour externship. This is a modular based program designed to prepare the student to assist the physician and function as a healthcare professional in a variety of medical settings. Students learn a variety of clinical and office skills required by employers. Clinical knowledge and skills include: phlebotomy, EKG, assisting with radiology procedures, pharmacology, minor lab procedures, assisting with minor surgical procedures, anatomy & physiology, basic nutrition, basic microbiology, assisting with patient examinations, asepsis & infection control, vital signs, and ear and eye care. Office skills include: legal issues, communication, office equipment, patient records, mail & supplies, scheduling & telephone techniques, insurance & patient education, bookkeeping, billing, and collection medical terminology, and basic computer/keyboarding skills. The program is taught utilizing textbooks, workbooks, lab practice, video, and models. Students gain valuable practical experience in the field of Medical Assisting during a 160-hour externship at local medical facilities. This program may be completed in 37 weeks.

Program Objective: Upon completion of this program, the student is qualified to sit for the Registered Medical Assistant Certification Exam and the Certified Medical Assistant Exam. The graduate is prepared to work in a variety of healthcare settings including doctors’ offices, private practices, clinics, outpatient hospitals, and other healthcare related facilities.
